4 Body Language Signs Your Ex Still Loves You

Body language ex still loves you

Previously, we talked about some obvious signs your ex still loves you. Today, we’ll talk about more subtle signs – the body language signs. Keep in mind that it’s almost impossible to determine what your ex wants and feels just by reading his or her body language. But you can consider body language an additional tool that can help you determine whether your ex still loves you or recently started loving you.

Body language says a lot of things about your ex, starting with your ex’s interest and affection. But to understand whether your ex still loves you, you’ll need to know what body language gestures and expressions to look for. If you assume that crying, hugging, and even kissing indicate that your ex still has feelings for you, you’ll misread the signs and perhaps even act on them.

You’ll do something that pushes your ex away and get rejected and hurt again.

Before we start talking about body language signs that your ex still loves you, you have to understand that you don’t even need to know whether your ex loves you. You don’t need to know because knowing it could complicate things for you.

It could make you anxious and force you to keep looking over your shoulder. If your ex loves you, rest assured that your ex will sooner than later tell you that he or she has feelings for you and wants you back.

You can be certain about that because your ex will be in a hurry to take the initiative and reconnect with you emotionally before someone else gets an opportunity to take his or her spot.

Body language doesn’t lie. It reveals how a person thinks, feels, and doesn’t feel. It’s hard to fake body language unless a person has a lot of practice sending the opposite signals and is aware of how he or she presents himself or herself.

But in that case, you can probably expect the person who dumped you to soon get tired of hiding his or her true feelings. It just wouldn’t make sense to keep hiding love when the very essence of his or her being depends on your recognition and affection.

Normally, people who fake body language don’t care or care enough about the person they’re trying to hide feelings from. That’s why they quickly get over that person and find someone new to spend time with. Someone who serves them as a distraction and enables them to feel loved again.

If your ex is dating someone else but tells you that he/she still loves you, you need to understand that your ex’s words are mere words and that they speak for themselves. They say that your ex feels something else for you (most likely guilt) and that your ex doesn’t want to get back together with you and hurt you. Your ex just wants to keep moving on and enjoying his or her post-breakup life.

In this post, we’ll talk about 4 body language signs your ex still loves you and wants to be with you.

Body language ex still loves you

1)Your ex appears anxious, worried, or scared

One of the best body language signs your ex still loves you is fear and anxiety. These two emotions indicate that your ex respects you and is afraid of obtaining an unwanted response from you. An unwanted response could be anything that hurts your ex’s expectations and makes him or her feel rejected.

When your ex is anxious and worried, your ex feels more than just bad for hurting you and putting you through a difficult situation. Your ex probably also has feelings for you and wants you back. This is because something bad happened to your ex while you were separated. Something that made your ex realize your worth and the value you can add to his or her life.

Now that your ex is hurting, your ex is questioning/regretting his or her decisions and needs you back for validation and happiness purposes. Your ex basically needs you to feel better, so your ex is scared that you might not want to get back together.

Most dumpees see this sign only a minute or two before their ex asks them to get back together. They don’t see that their ex is scared and anxious before that because their ex is doing okay emotionally and possibly dating someone else.

Their ex is still going through the breakup stages and thinks that breaking up was a wise decision.

To stop thinking that way, your ex needs to experience unpleasant emotions. Undesirable emotions could show your ex that he or she has traded a good life for an unhappy one and that he or she better run back to you before you move on and completely forget about your ex.

Of course, you’ll never forget that your ex existed, but you will eventually stop thinking fondly of your ex and craving his or her affection. When you detach, you’ll probably give up on your ex out of self-respect and the desire to move forward with your life.

That’s when your ex will become susceptible to pain and might want to rely on you as a friend or more, depending on how strong and developed your ex is and how badly things go for him or her.

So how can you spot signs of anxiety, worry, and fear? You can tell your ex is stressed and unhappy just by observing his/her facial expressions. An ex who’s in pain won’t laugh or smile much (if at all). He or she won’t be able to fake happiness because pain will constantly bring the man or woman down and remind him or her to impress you and win your trust and loyalty back.

The risks will be too high for your ex to relax as obtaining your forgiveness and love will be extremely important to your ex. It will force your ex to fix things and get back together with you so that the suffering can finally end.

An anxious ex could be so nervous that he or she fidgets a lot, stares at you longer than usual, and looks like he or she is in a lot of pain and hasn’t been eating and sleeping much recently. Not a lot of dumpees notice that their ex has bags under his/her eyes and doesn’t feel good, but those that do can usually tell that their ex’s post-breakup life hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows.

2)Your ex is sad or depressed

Sadness, unhappiness, and depression are also big signs that your ex wants you back. They indicate that your ex is going through something difficult and that he or she may need help feeling better. And what better way is there to feel better than to get back with an ex who was caring and supportive?

Your ex could, of course, run back to some other ex, but it’s much more likely that your ex will choose you because you were the most recent person he or she had a strong connection with. With some other ex, your ex would have to restore the connection and fall in love first.

And that could take time. Your ex would likely rather get back with you and start feeling valued right away than start a new bond with an old fling or someone new.

You can tell your ex is sad or depressed if your ex looks miserable around you or away from you. An unhappy person has a much, much higher chance of appreciating you than someone who appears to be happy, elated, and relieved.

So pay close attention to your ex’s happiness or the lack thereof. Pay attention to your ex’s mood, nostalgia, and desire to spend time with you. If your ex wants you back to feel better, your ex could touch you a lot, hold your hand, help you go up the stairs, or appear a bit shy.

He or she could do whatever it takes for you to notice him/her and appreciate his or her efforts. Just make sure not to confuse love for kindness and friendship. If a lot of time has passed since the breakup (I’m talking about years), your ex could feel comfortable touching you again, but only as a friend. You don’t want to mistake that as a body language sign that your ex still loves you.

Consider it a sign only if your ex appears hurt or sad and needs validation from you.

3)Your ex mimics your behavior

If your ex’s body is facing you and mimicking your actions, your ex is probably doing that to see what you think and feel about him/her. Your ex has feelings and romantic expectations of you, so your ex wants to understand if you’re even on the same page.

If you are on the same page, your ex can safely stop reading your feelings and start acting like your boyfriend or girlfriend. He or she can act like you never broke up or conversely, look for an opportunity to confess feelings and get back with you.

If your ex’s body language is a mirror of yours, you can be almost certain your ex is trying to impress you. This happens subconsciously or sometimes even consciously (if a person is very self-conscious).

You can tell your ex mimics you if your ex observes you intently and does the following things simultaneously with you:

  • smiling/laughing
  • leaning forward
  • standing up
  • looking away
  • or even something as simple as stretching, coughing, or scratching

When an ex is interested in you and wants you back, he or she will keep his or her eyes on you at all times. When caught staring, he or she may pretend to be disinterested just to avoid raising suspicion and then immediately continue analyzing you.

All you need to do is be approachable and let your ex muster up the courage to say what’s on his or her mind. When that happens, your ex will tell you everything you’ve been hoping to hear since the day you broke up.

4)Your ex flirts with you

Flirting can mean two things.

  1. Your ex has feelings for you.
  2. Or your ex finds you sexually attractive and wants to be friends with benefits.

To understand what a flirting ex wants, you’ll have to talk to your ex and ask what he or she hopes to get out of it. I know this seems a bit straightforward and confrontational, but you don’t want to get used and strung along. You want to know your ex can express feelings and regrets and fulfill your romantic cravings in a matter of days.

So before you let your ex flirt with you and sleep with you, make sure that your ex wants you for your traits, not your body. Make sure that your ex respects you and has learned his or her lessons.

If you randomly flirt with your ex without discovering how your ex feels about you, the flirting could go on for days or weeks and never progress into romance. And that could make you feel used and abandoned again.

Your ex already disappointed you once. You want to be extra careful when your ex flirts with you so that your ex doesn’t have the cake and eat it too.

Although some exes aren’t very expressive and use flirting as a means to get back together, you need to wait for your ex to do a bit more than that. You need him or her to apologize and show you as well as tell you that he or she wants to get back together and make things right.

If your ex gets back with you without saying a word, your relationship most likely won’t be successful. This is because your ex won’t learn anything from the breakup and won’t have to work for your forgiveness, acceptance, and love.

Your ex will have everything handed to him/her on a silver platter. And as you probably know, people don’t value that which is given to them. They value things and people when they have to work hard for them. The more work they have to put into them, the more invested they are and the higher the chances that they’ll stay committed to them for a long time.

So consider your ex’s body language a sign that your ex still loves you. But consider it only if it’s backed by decisive words and lots of actions.

  1. Ok, so mine ADORES me, because he saw me at a party, didn’t smile, barely uttered “hi”, looked completely panick-stricken, and he turned around 180 degrees and literally ran away from the place!!! This is a year after breaking up in the most unexpected, unkind way because he “had always been on his own” and “he felt too vulnerable with me”. I mean, this man clearly does not handle emotions very well.

    1. No, Sivananda.

He felt uncomfortable and didn’t know how to respond. That’s why he ran away from the situation very quickly.

      Best,
      Zan
