Seeing Your Ex With Someone Else In A Dream

Seeing your ex with someone else in a dream

If you’re seeing your ex with someone else in a dream, it doesn’t mean that your ex is dating someone else already.

It doesn’t mean that he or she is having the time of his or her life either.

All it means is that your brain is playing tricks on you by projecting your biggest fears and insecurities to you in the form of a dream.

It’s showing you that which you’re consciously or subconsciously afraid of the most.

So don’t think that there’s a superstitious meaning behind your ex and his or her partner.

There likely isn’t. Especially if the breakup happened recently and you still possess feelings for your ex.

If you’re seeing your ex with someone else in a dream and you’re curious why you’re having such dreams, this article will provide you with some insight.

It will explain to you why something as common as dreaming about your ex and his or her new (imaginary) girlfriend or boyfriend is completely normal.

Seeing your ex with someone else in a dream

What does it mean if I dream about seeing my ex with someone else?

Seeing your ex in a dream with another person usually means one of the following two things:

  1. That you’re a dumpee who’s still heartbroken over the loss of your relationship.
  2. That you’re a dumper and that you don’t want your ex to date others because of ego purposes.

These are the most common reasons, but there’s also a third.

It applies to those dumpees and dumpers who don’t care about their ex dating someone else because they are over their ex.

For such people, seeing their ex dating someone else is completely random. It doesn’t mean anything other than that their ex used to play a big role in their life and that he or she is now a part of their memory.

The dreamer’s ex is basically engraved into his or her long term memory.

And that’s why even a person who’s over their ex sometimes dreams about their ex and his or her partner.

I do as well.

It’s completely normal.

Most people dream about their exes

The truth is that most dumpees dream about their exes. They dream about seeing their ex dating someone else, getting back together with him or her, and even about getting revenge.

People dream about all sorts of ex-related matters. But what kind of a dream they have usually depends on one’s emotional state.

For example, if a person is in the early stages of a breakup, the dumpee or the dumper is prone to dreaming about self-empowering, hopeful things.

Things that he or she wants to manifest in his or her world. For the dumper, this could be justice.

As for the dumpee, it’s seeing his or her ex apologize and come coming back.

I’ve created a survey which confirms that most people dream about their exes. (You too can take part in it).

No matter what kind of ex-dream a dumpee has, the dream often makes the dumpee nostalgic and causes him or her to regress emotionally.

Dreams have that power—and some dreams happen for a reason. They occur when a person is heartbroken, nostalgic, jealous, or vengeful.

Or in other words, when he or she is emotional and wants certain events to unfold his or her way.

So if you’re seeing your ex with someone else in a dream, know that your dreams are most likely emotionally driven by anxiety.

This means that your brain is showing you a problem that needs to be solved immediately for your own good.

Figuring out the meaning behind your ex-dreams

If you’re curious about what it means if you’re seeing your ex with someone else in a dream, confirm with me whether you’re the dumpee or the dumper.

If you’re the dumpee and it hasn’t been too long since your ex left you (less than two years), chances are that you haven’t completely recovered from the breakup yet.

You’re still hungry for your ex’s recognition so you technically don’t want your ex to be with someone else. You want his or her approval to go to you and not to someone else.

If you’re the dumper though, then there could be other explanations behind your sudden ex dreams.

One of them could be that something or someone disappointed you and made you reminisce about the times when you were with your ex.

Perhaps someone rejected you or maybe you lost something important to you like a job or a family member.

A negative occurrence such as heartbreak is oftentimes powerful enough for a person to think back to times when things were different or better.

So turn inward for a moment and discern whether you’ve been completely happy with yourself and your recent life.

If you haven’t been very happy, the reason why you’re seeing your ex with someone else in a dream is very straightforward.

Your brain is looking for solutions and backup options that could save you from your misfortunes.

It’s doing this without your awareness because it’s trying to make you feel content again. It’s basically showing you the quickest options that would heal you.

I suppose this explains why you feel nostalgic whenever you think about your ex.

Furthermore, if your life is going the way you want it to go and you’re as happy as a clam, you’re dreaming about seeing your ex with someone else for no particular reason.

There are some dreams that have no logical explanation. They are as random as they can get.

But all in all, whether your ex-dreams are related to your life is something only you can tell. But you have to be honest with yourself and evaluate your current happiness.

Here’s a picture that could help you figure out why you dream about seeing your ex date another person.

Seeing your ex dating someone else in a dream

What if I dream about seeing my ex with someone else every night?

Now we know that there are two common reasons why you dream about an ex from the past.

We know that you’re either unhappy with where you are in life (romantically or in general) or that you’re still hurting over the breakup.

Whatever the case may be, both reasons are very similar to each other. They both stem from unhappiness as they represent your current emotional state – the emotions that you feel toward yourself.

But if you’re dreaming about seeing your ex with someone else every night or very often, it’s not just unhappiness that’s torturing you at night.

It’s your everyday thoughts that you willingly or unwillingly create.

Basically, where you direct your thoughts after a bad dream and how much importance you dedicate to a dream sets the frequency of your bad dreams.

This means that whenever you overreact about an unwanted ex-dream, you inadvertently store your negative experience into your memory and consequently, shove your ex deeper into your subconscious mind.

As a result, you give your ex the green light to visit you next time you sleep.

And that’s because your brain can’t differentiate between wanting and not wanting something.

Whatever you feed it—whether it’s positive or negative, the brain is compelled to return to you in some form.

This compensation usually occurs at the end of the day when you relax and try to forget about your daily troubles.

So once again, try to understand that the more afraid you are of something, the higher the chances that it will manifest itself in a dream.

This entails fears, phobias, insecurities, traumas, and anything that you don’t want to occur.

How do I stop dreaming about seeing my ex with someone else?

If you’re getting angry, sad, confused, or worried about dreaming about seeing your ex with someone else, know that what you’re doing is counterproductive.

You’re engaging in mindless, repetitive ex-thoughts that give power to your dreams and make them possible.

That’s why the most effective way to stop dreaming about your ex and his or her partner is to do exactly the opposite of what makes ex-dreams possible.

Don’t think about your ex.

This straightforward, yet effective technique works like a charm in the breakup world.

In fact, it’s the first rule of the breakup.

First rule of the breakup

So whatever you do, don’t lose your emotional self-control and contemplate deeply about the meaning behind your ex-dreams.

You will empower them and give them exactly what they need to exist.

Don’t do it.

Brush them off. Shake them out of your consciousness and distract yourself with something or someone else.

Do whatever it takes just so you don’t think about them.

You’ll soon realize that you can (in a fairly quick time) overcome your ex-dreams. You just have to engage in an activity that requires brainpower.

So if you hate seeing your ex with someone else in a dream because it makes you feel unwanted emotions, the key to stopping them is to:

  • Improve the way you perceive your dreams
  • Change the way you react to them
  • Get over your ex and let go of certain expectations of him or her
  • Work on accepting the past and grow as a person

That’s it.

There’s no magic potion that will make you stop dreaming about your ex—but there is a very effective method that will cultivate positive long-term results.

It’s called self-improvement, so get serious about it.

If you do, it will take you far and help you overcome your issues. This includes your flaws, incessant ex-cravings, and even your dreams.

So start investing in yourself and most of your ex-thoughts, ex-dreams, and unwanted emotions will soon disappear.

And that’s because nightmares require energy to recur. The energy which is made of fear and anxiety.

What if it’s been years and I still dream about my ex?

If it’s been years and you still dream about your ex, you’re clearly still holding onto the past.

You’re putting immense value on the person who left you and you haven’t found your happiness yet.

In this case, you may want to consult a dream specialist or a mental health doctor. Preferably both as their united expertise may be able to help you detach from a lost cause and give you the tools to create your own happiness.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

So seek professional help and be open-minded. Chances are that a few healthy tips are all you need before you finally process the breakup and move on from the past that haunts you.

  1. I broke up with my ex its almost two years now, he pleaded for me to come back for a full year but I was still biased about his treatment that caused the break up,,, I have been doing good till when he put a statement on his status showing he is now in another relationship. I feel very broken again I can’t believe I can’t have him again. I truly miss all the moments we had for the 5yrs we were in relationship. What should I do.

  2. My ex and I separated over 5 years and I dream about him from time to time. I wake up with feelings of nostalgia. He is now married to someone else with a small child. We don’t talk and he dislikes me or at least he is rude to me or avoids me. I dream that he is with his family and it makes me feel sad. In the dream I want to be part of that life and I wake up feeling sad. I am happy he found happiness but I can’t feel happy for myself.

  3. Hi I was dumped 3 months ago. And i dont feel any better since the break up. He was my first love and i still love him that Way, and he doesen’t even want to talk to me. My Brain has been torturing me with these dreams one of them are: I was Holding a party at my House with my classmates (highschool 2 year). I of course invited him too Cause otherwise would be mean. I then tell him to not do anything with anybody Cause I’m not ready yet. And then on the dancefloor i ser him right in front of me making out with a Girl my Brain has created. I was devastated and told him to stop. Then time went on and a few people left. And then i notice he and the Girl are missing so i look for them and find them on my terrace having sex. It all seemed so real and i cried and felt a knife in my heart. I Got angry with him Telling him to leave and Why it was cruel of him to do so, and that he hurt me. He went Home and i made sure the Girl stayed so i could talk to her, explaining i dont want her seeing her w him Cause I’m
Not ready, she is supposed to be my friend in this dream. The Day after I FaceTime him and he answers and i tell him again How cruel he was and How it wasent to throw him out of the party to be mean, But that he pained me. Then I woke up in the middle of the night crying because a true scenario is kinda similar to this, as there is this Girl in class that he likes, and he has told me that they are writing romanticly, i asked him if there were going anything on Cause i noticed they were flirting in class. And i asked her tricky without her getting mad, if a boy in put class hits on you at one of our parties would you go on w it at kiss them and she Said yes. So i know it is going to happen and then i dream the exact dream just with a different Girl. Help What does this mean and can i stop dreaming this.

  4. The easiest way to get rid of a bad ex dream is to simply rebuke it as soon as you wake up from it. “I rebuke this dream in the name of Jesus, I no longer submit permission for (ex name) to visit me in the spiritual world/my dreams. Do that every time and watch the dreams fade away… good luck 🍀

  5. I keep having dreams where my ex is either talking to someone else I don’t know or someone I know of. I feel like I’m over my ex but the way things ended pissed me off. In the dreams my ex always has a partner but still looks at me and entertains my existence. However every time my ex will start making out with someone right in front of me. And I don’t care about my ex talking to anybody else which is why I don’t understand why I feel absolutely horrible after dreams like that. I feel insecure, cold, and just sad afterwards. and the dreams keep happening… same ex just a diff person to make me “jealous” with every time ??¿ and I’m happily in a different relationship now but I still dream of my ex? You can see how that makes me look bad but it’s not on purpose and I’m over my ex.. help

  6. What if it’s the other way around? I was with my ex, just hanging out casually in my dream but then saw my new love and was very affectionate to him in front of my ex. I don’t actually know this new love in real life as I didn’t recognize him.

  7. It’s been years since my ex and I broke up. However, him and his family are still somewhat in my life because we’ve been in each other’s lives for a long time. I just woke up from what seemed to be the realest dream. My ex was dating someone else and normally I’m okay with the fact that it is going to happen sooner or later but after this dream my heart hurt of just seeing them happy but that’s all I ever want for him even it if nots with me, to be happy.

  8. I just woke up from this dream where my ex was dating one of my distant friends X. X is known to me through a mutual friend and that mutual friend was going to setup my ex and X in the past before we hit on.
Now, in the dream I was with some other friends and both of them. I was cool with it in my dream until X started rubbing it in my face.
Then I woke up. It was weird. Literally!

  9. My ex left over 2 years ago. We have a 4 year old daughter together so I see him when he gets her. I live life, I’m happy, smiling and now seeing someone new. Randomly I drempt about my ex 2 nights ago and he was dating an old coworker of mine. Then i seen a positive pregnancy test. That’s all i remember but the next morning i couldn’t help but think of it all day and it made me cry. Hes a good man just needed to grow. He also reminds me from time to time he made the biggest mistake. Deep down I do love him and even seeing other men, no one compares to him. Is my dream trying to tell me something?

  10. My ex dumped me wickedly after all the good I did for her and NY good hrt towards her… It pains alot but I still need her what could I do? Pls help

    1. Hi Ime.

You can’t do much right now. Your ex decided to quit on you so you must wait for her to come back for you. In the meantime, keep working on yourself and try to lose hope for reconciliation.

      Sincerely,
      Zan

  11. I had a dream that I saw my ex in a grocery store and then he sent somebody to kick me out of the grocery store because his ex is coming I got so angry I decided to go ahead and put a curse on him

  12. Hi,
So I’m in a difficult situation. He left me a month and a half before I gave birth says he has trust issues with me because he cheated on me for half a year and we broke up and then got back and when we got back I acted too as if like an emotional revenge. But things became ok afterwards and worked on it for 2yrs. I got pregnant and someone messaged him accusing me I cheated again and that he should take a paternity test. I pushed for the test because he did not believe and results came out positively his (test was done a month after baby was born) So he left me before I gave birth and it’s been 8 months now since he left. We’re still in contact because of our baby together. I’ve been having random dreams of him and I getting back together most of the time and then this one night I had a dream of him having something with someone else. In person he starts to convo and I don’t talk to him or message him about anything else besides our child. He’s been treating me like crap verbally and in person. He likes to say he’s done with me etc but when I ignore him for days he comes to my place trying to talk to me and see our child. I still have some of his belongings here that he has yet to pick up. He keeps forgetting to pick up. Is that also some kind of leverage for him as if like in his mind he thinks he can always come back? Please help me why he’s doing this and what is he trying to do etc. thank you!

  13. I had a really vivid dream about my ex last week and I’ve been broken up almost 8 months and mostly feel alright about things. It really put me on my ass emotionally for a couple of days. I guess I’m still not completely over it. I find myself more concerned about her these days because of the craziness right now. I guess that’s what it is.

    1. Hi Trevor.

I’m sorry to hear about your setback.

As I mentioned in the article, try not to think about it. Disassociate emotions from the dream and you’ll get back on your feet very quickly.

      Stay strong, Trevor!

      Zan

  14. I was in a commited relationship about a year & had good sex too.. On december last week we had arguement resulting to abusing words to each other. After a week I came to know that she is in a relationship with her best friend who was chasing her from last 4 yrs, I called her & asked her she told me everything is over and she is in relationship with her bestie who stays on other state(long distance). I went her home day after to know the exact reason she said its true she gave words to that guy and she cant turn back, I cried in tears and pleading and begging she then blocked me on her phone & After that I made no contact with her, On january last weak she wished me on my birthday and again she blocked me, Is that a rebound🤔 she didnt even exchanged the gifts, said she liked that during breakup, I am in no contact about two months & feeling better day by day, Dude I want to know Is that rebound? She went to long distance relationship but we used to meet thrice in a week, I didnt went out during Corona virus, Is there any chance of coming back?

    1. Hi HB.

If she detached from you completely, it’s most likely not a rebound. You’ll find out in a few months.

Until you do, stay strong and keep moving on.

      Kind regards,
      Zan

  15. Hi

In the past 2 weeks i dreamed with this scenario 2 different nights. I think he’s not with someone else, but sometimes i wish that was true, because i think it was a good thing for me to finnaly move on.
He breadcrumbs me sometimes (mainly now because of the virus) and although i feel kinda “happy” because he keeps sending me some pictures of himself, or shares with me some projects he’s working on. But i know he doesnt want to be with me again, so i just dont understand why he keep doing this. To think and accept the possibility that he is or talking with someone else, could be the final sign that I must actually forget about him.

    1. Hi Isabel.

Your ex is sending you pictures because it doesn’t hurt him to do so. He’s detached and wants to be nice to you.

As for your ex-dreams, they will soon stop.

      Don’t worry about them!
      Zan

  16. Ugh I see time to time in dreams that we are getting back together thank you for touching ever area Zan! This helps a lot :))

    1. Hi Linda.

This is completely normal. It means that you’re not over your ex yet and that you need to continue to work on yourself.

      Best,
      Zan

      1. Okay thank you for letting that know. And when I see in my dreams I feel kind of safe. Like things are back to ‘normal’ for a moment. I’m trying a lot to work in myself hope that I’m doing right :))

        1. Hi Linda.

You’re doing great. As long as the ex-dream doesn’t affect you in a bad way, they are harmless to you.

          Keep working on yourself!

          Zan

          1. Why do I feel bad after realizing that my ex is in serious relationship. Why do I feel I have lost him forever even after getting used for him being out if my life for two years now.
